Entering
Labels
Let’s start with the labels. Click on cell A1 and type
the word “April.” Tab across to B1 and type “May.” Now click on cell
A1—April—and hold your left mouse button down as you slide over to May.
Release your mouse. You have selected a range of cells. Look carefully
at the bottom right hand corner of cell B1. Do you see a little black
square? This is the AutoFill handle. Move your cursor over to
that handle. When your cursor changes from a white plus sign to a thin
black cross, hold your left mouse button down and drag your mouse to the
right. See how Excel fills in the series?.

AutoFill Handle

|
AutoFill can complete any
number of series if you give Excel enough information. For example,
if you type in the dates for Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the
AutoFill will calculate the dates for the next week. Try it!
