ROBO Copy!
Consider
this scenario: Mama’s computer is the only machine in the office
with a tape drive. Every night, all of the data is dutifully copied
to the tape for safekeeping. Now, suppose Mama’s machine dies a
terrible death. How are you going to read the backup tapes? You
could install the tape drive in another computer, but that takes
time. If you have two or more computers in your office you can
backup the data from one machine to the other. “Live” backups are
extremely useful if you have a hardware failure. The data is there
ready to go. Your company is not out of business waiting for the
hardware repairs.
In Windows NT and XP, you can use a little utility called Robo Copy.
This program comes as part of the Microsoft Windows NT Resource kit.
Robo Copy lets you specify where and when you would like to copy
your files.
A few hours spent learning a reliable live backup method takes a lot
less time than trying to recreate 100s of man hours lost in a
hardware crash, hmmmm?
