When you click
on Custom Level, you can review the security settings for each zone.
With a Medium setting, you will be asked if you want to download ActiveX
controls. All ActiveX and Java controls that are not validated as safe
will be disabled.
What are ActiveX and Java controls? These
controls are code and scripts that provide animation to a web site. When
you run your mouse over a web button and it changes color or opens a
menu, that behavior is programmed with a scripted control.
Most of these
controls are harmless: they add functionality to the web page. Others
controls were only built for malicious purposes. Independent companies,
such as VeriSign review web sites and validate when the controls are
safe to use.
