Show/Hide
Look on the Standard Tool bar for the Show/Hide
button. It is a backwards-facing “P” on the far right side of the
screen.
When the Show/Hide is turned on Microsoft Word displays all of
the non-printing characters. A non-printing character is a symbol you
can see on the screen--such as the backwards “P” that marks each time
you hit the Enter key and create a new line and create a new line. These
characters help you troubleshoot your formatting, but they do not print.
Text is constrained to being so many lines from the top and so many
units from the margin. Graphics can be freely placed and the anchor is
used to measure the picture’s position on a page. Cool, huh?
