New, Open, Save, and Save As
New
There are two ways
of starting a new, blank document. The first example is quick, the second
method has more options.

Try this: Open a new Word document by clicking on the
New button: the plain white sheet of paper in the upper left corner of
the tool bar.

Now, try this: Open a new Word document by going to File
on the menu bar, and clicking New.
Open
To open an existing Word document, click on the Open button: the
yellow folder in the upper left corner of the tool bar.
Save your work
The first time you click on Save, you will see the Save As window:

Use the down arrow by the Save in to find
My Documents.

Create a new folder in My Documents by clicking on the
yellow New Folder button

Use Tab on your keyboard to highlight the File Name field.

Type a name for your document, "Scrap"

Click on the Save button
