New, Open, Save, and Save As

New

There are two ways of starting a new, blank document. The first example is quick, the second method has more options.

  • Try this: Open a new Word document by clicking on the New button: the plain white sheet of paper in the upper left corner of the tool bar.

  • Now, try this: Open a new Word document by going to File on the menu bar, and clicking New.

Open

To open an existing Word document, click on the Open button: the yellow folder in the upper left corner of the tool bar.

Save your work

The first time you click on Save, you will see the Save As window:

  • Use the down arrow by the Save in to find My Documents.

  • Create a new folder in My Documents by clicking on the yellow New Folder button

    • Type in your First Name for the folder

    • Click on OK to save the name for this new folder

  • Use Tab on your keyboard to highlight the File Name field.

  • Type a name for your document, "Scrap"

  • Click on the Save button
